SYNOPSIS:
London, England
1888
Tom MacKenna and Lucien Baptiste have little in common—one a
thief, the other a magician—besides both being gifted with supernatural
powers which they use strictly for their own monetary gain, and being
equally ignorant and uninterested as to the origins of these abilities.
However, when a strange twist of circumstances forces them to assume
responsibility for Helene Prideux, a mysterious little French girl,
they are introduced to a world of magic, witches, and danger. Mayhem
ensues as they find themselves in a race around the world with an
international Witches' Council at their heels.
ORIGIN:
"Three of Swords" owes its creation to a TV commercial
that depicted a little blonde girl in a strange world of bluish lights.
Inspired, Brittany asked her sister Melissa to work on a story with
her—a story about a little blonde girl with strange powers and,
of course, two good-looking guys for them to write about. The initial
story development stemmed from a writing game created by Brittany,
in which basic details of the characters were selected by multiple
choice and chance. On October 19, 2007, "Three of Swords"
was officially born, along with its three main characters: Thomas,
Lucien, and Helene.
The
illustrations that accompany each chapter are completed in graphite
on Bristol board, then scanned and sepia-toned in Photoshop. There
are 1-2 illustrations depending on the length of the chapter, and
1 full-color digitally painted cover per volume.
